In our society adoption is often looked upon as something that is very positive institution. It appears to be the win-win solution for mothers who feel unfit as well as for families looking for a child to call their own. However, the Anti-adoption Movement is gaining in popularity as it pursues its goal of exposing the adoption systems around the world for what they really are. They work as activist exposing the flaws in the system of adoption that we know and coming together to work towards reform.
The title of the movement definitely gives an initial shock. How could an organization be against giving orphans and the abandoned homes? I personally found myself wanting to denounce the movement as some petty defiant trend, however once I moved past the title of the movement I found a lot of organizations working for the social good. I found organizations and individuals fighting for the rights of all those who are often unheard. Actually I was even surprised to find the amount of organizations that fought for the rights of the birth mothers specifically.
The various activists and organizations that have been raised from this movement have used various tools to gain support and share their views. From connecting through social media to utilizing the ancient media of literature, the anti-adoption movement uses all that they can to make a difference. While some organization work to expose the flaws, others work to connect and create reform. They all come together in this movement illustrating the epitome of activism for not only orphans, but also all of the other players involved.
While I still may not completely agree that the adoption system should be thrown away completely, I must admit that I am inspired by the activism exemplified by these organizations.
